Past General Brazilian Missions Reunion - March 30, 2012

Elder Claudio R. M. Costa of the Seventy and currently President of the Brazil Area, and Elder Stanley G. Ellis of the Seventy, addressed our meeting of the joint Brazilian Missions held at the Bountiful Central Stake Center at 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, UT 84010..

This was a get-together for all missionaries who served in any mission in Brazil before 1985, as well as their mission presidents and Brazilian members from that era. We hold one of these super reunions every three years or so, hoping not to interfere with other mission reunions.

When we got together we enjoyed an afternoon of visiting and food—including some real Brazilian food, wonderful meals kindly prepared by Brazilian members, augmented by potluck items from you folks who live in the area.

Bangerter Mission Reunion – March 31, 2011

Our last Bangerter get-together was held on Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Apline Stake Center, 98 East Canyon Crest Rd in Apline.

Multi-Mission Reunion April 2009

All Brazilian missions from the beginning of missionary work in Brazil through 1970 met last April for a joint gathering. The meeting was held at the Boutiful Central Stake Center.

Gathering began in the afternoon with a fantástico feijoada meal prepared and served by several of the sisters. Included were casseroles, salads and desserts provided by many attendees.

A program began at 6:30 and included late updates of events in Brazil and a quick summary of the last 70 years of work in Brazil presented by Pres. David Beck. Some special guests from Brazil were invited to speak, including Elder Amato, Seventy, and Sr. Graça Lima from the Brazilian Consulate. A short video of a Brazilian Senate recognition of the Church in Brazil was presented. Several people who represent the history of the church in Brazil were interviewed and videotaped to help document the story of "Os Mormons" in Brazil.

Bangerter Mission April 2008 Reunion

A get-together was held on April 4th, 2008 at the Alpine 5th Ward building. Conversation was enhanced with 'pasteis' and Guarana. It was great having the Bangerters in attendance, and especially fun to see the Bangerter children and grandchildren perform Brazilian songs and dances.

Comments were made by Julie (Bangerter) Beck, Wilford Cardon (recently returned as President of the Sao Paulo MTC), Elder Day, Vernal Hadley, Sister and President Bangerter and others.

Bangerter Mission October 2007 Reunion

Date: Friday, October 5, 2007

A great time was had by all visiting and renewing old friendships. President and Sister Bangerter were in attendance, together with their son Paulo and daughter Julie (Beck), who both spoke to the group, as did others. It was wonderful that we are still able to see President and Sister Bangerter, be inspired by them, and feel of their spirit?

William Grant Bangerter Missionary Reunion & Walter Queiroz Surprise Party to celebrate 50 years since his baptism.

President Queiroz, currently serving as President of the Porto Alegre Temple, was one of three ministers who joined the church in the 1950's (together wilh Helio da Rocha Camargo and Saul Messias de Oliveira). While he was visiting family members that live in Utah, a surprise get-together was held last March, 2007.

North and South Mission Get-Together. September 2006

Bangerter Missionaries Summer Event, August 2005

The Bangerter Missionaries Summer Event was held from 12 - 4PM on Saturday the 6th of August, 2005. It was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints U of U Recreation Park, behind the church where the April Reunions are usually held. (Sunnyside Chapel, 1851 E. Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT).

April 2005 Bangerter Group Reunion

The April 2005 reunion was held at 7PM on Friday the 1st of April, 2005. It was held at the usual location at the Sunnyside Chapel, 1851 E. Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT.

April 2nd, 2004 - Bangerter Group Reunion

We held our annual Bangerter group reunion on Friday, April 2nd, 2004, before April Conference, at the usual location at the Sunnyside Chapel, 1851 E. Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT. It was, by far, the largest turnout that we have had in a long time, due mostly to Sister Bangerter's Christmas mailing to everyone we have addresses for. We were able to hear from many of our group, who gave us updates on their lives and/or the activities of the Saints in Brazil.

President and Sister Bangerter reviewed the re-dedication of the São Paulo Temple and the surrounding activities, including the celebration in the Estãdio do Pacaembu. She showed us a video of the festivities which included singing by Liriel Domiciano, the young popular Brazilian singer who is a member of the church. Check her Internet site at http://www.liriel.com.br/ .

Bruno Vassell talked to us about the Salt Lake Inner City Mission (http://www.innercityproject.org/), emphasizing the unique opportunities to serve in Spanish and Portuguese speaking branches and wards. Kim and Marlene Russell have just received a part-time mission call to work in a Portuguese speaking branch in Salt Lake. Bruno spoke of the ESL (English as a Second Language) Mission just organized in the Salt Lake area, over which he presides.

Stewart and Lila Russell were in attendance as well. Those of you who worked in Rio between 1957 and 1960 surely remember dropping by their home in Leblon and making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at their home and washing it down with real U.S root beer!

Duke Cowley updated us on the Perpetual Education Program in Brazil. He mentioned several examples of how the program has helped returned Brazilian missionaries obtain further education and up-scale employment opportunities through the Perpetual Education Program.

August, 2003 - Patriarch Bangerter

Brother and Sister Bangerter's Stake was divided and President Bangerter was called as the Stake Patriarch! What a great honor and calling for him. We wish him all the best in this new calling. Somehow, for us that know him so well, this calling seems very appropriate.

June 14, 2003 - Summer Reunion

Well, it’s over! We held the Bangerter Brazilian Mission reunion this June 14th, 2003, and it was a blast! It was held at the Bangerter’s home in Alpine, Utah, between Salt Lake and Provo. For your future reference, the address is

542 South Alpine Hwy, Alpine, Utah (84004)

Phone: (801) 756-4236

The Bangerter "Kids" still remember the Brazilian children's songs, and they performed a couple for our "entertainment" !

Folks brought a ton of tasteful pot luck dishes and plenty of feijoada and ice cold guarana was provided for all. There was plenty of visiting and special presentations by some of our people who have been, are, or will soon be involved with the Church in Brazil. Click on "Photos" above for a link to pictures taken at the reunion. And, by the way, if you have some good photos of the reunion, please E-mail them to me at kim@therussells.net and I will post them on this site.

We're going to leave the map to the Bangerter’s home on this site for reference for future activities. Alpine is a few miles south of Salt Lake City on highway I-15. Go south from Salt Lake on I-15 and take highway 92 east until you reach the Alpine Hwy. Turn left (north) and go about 1 mile and watch for their place on the left (West) side of the road. Turn down into their (long) driveway and there you are.

April 4th, 2003 - Bangerter Group Reunion

Our annual April Conference Bangerter group get-together was held on April 4th, 2003, 7 PM at the Sunnyside Chapel, 1851 E. Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT. It was a great time, once again, for all who could come. To see photos of the reunion, click on the "Photos" link above.

Also, in order to inform as many as possible of this and other events, I need current E-mail addresses. If you could send me a list of all the E-mail addresses that you are aware of, it would help a great deal in keeping all of our group aware of activities. E-mail save us a LOT of money normally spent on envelops and stamps! Send your list to the following E-mail address: ( kim@therussells.net ). Thanks. Kim

April 5, 2002 - Bangerter Group Reunion

Our annual Bangerter Mission reunion was held on April 5th, 2002, 7 PM Sunnyside Chapel, Salt Lake City, UT Cold Guarana was consumed by all. We were brought up to date on those of our group serving in the mission fields around the world. Brother Dell Ludwig presented the Bangerters with a fantastic set of albums of their lives and told some great stories about both President and Sister Bangerter.

June 16, 2001 - Mission Party

In June of the summer of 2001 we held a reunion at the Bangerter's home in Alpine, Utah. Many acquaintances were renewed, lots of good food was eaten and ALL of the Guarana disappeared!

If any of you who attended last June have any photos taken during the reunion, please e-mail them to me at kim@therussells.net and I will post them on this site. (.jpg files are the easiest to use but I can usually convert just about any type of image to a .jpg file)

We were also able to update many addresses. However, we still have over one third of our addresses and/or phone numbers on our list as incorrect, based mostly on the "return to sender" stamps on our last mailing. That is a large expense in stamps just to find out that the address is incorrect. We hope to come up with a method of correcting as many of these as possible without exposing your information to the world of the Internet. I think I will be placing a list of missing addresses on this page and asking folks to e-mail me directly with any corrections you might know of. Keep checking this site.
